Ingredients:
- 1 Bottle wine (750 ml)
- 1/4 cup brandy
- 1 orange, sliced into rounds
- 8 whole cloves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 2 star anise
- 2 tbsp sweetner (sugar, honey, maple syrup, agave nectar, etc.)
Instructions:
- Mix all ingredients in a large saucepan and stir to combine.
- Heat on medium-high heat until just simmering (do not let it boil)
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for at least 15 minutes. You can simmer for up to 3 hours.
- Strain into heatproof mugs
Notes:
I use a cast iron dutch oven to make this and simmer for about 1/2 hour.
Maple syrup makes a good sweetner.
