Masala Chai

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1.5 cups water
  • Fresh Ginger Root, 1" thick slice
  • 2 green cardamom pods, bruised
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 tea bags

Instructions:
  1. Pour milk and water into a small pan
  2. Smash ginger with mortar and pestle (or grate, finely chop, etc.) and add to liquid
  3. Add cloves, cardamom pods, and tea bags
  4. Bring to boil
  5. While the chai is cooking, get two teacups and put 1 tsp of sugar in each one.
  6. After chai boils remove from heat and let sit for 1 minute
  7. Strain into the teacups
  8. Stir and serve hot.

Notes:

I make this with whole milk. Using skim milk cuts the calories to about 38 per cup.
